Many options I am not sure how limited your funds are, but yes, you can chisel out the grout and regrout. You can also put down hardiback and tile over the existing. This will raise your floor though and may cause problems with the toilet wax ring, door jamb and moulding.

Another option is to use floor leveler and put down vinyl tile or vinyl floor. There are pretty good products out there. For example Novalis wood-looking planks from Lowes.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
