Sportsmanship is a good quality to have but you do not have to have it to be a good golfer. Etiquette I think goes along with sportsmanship. There are many what I call hidden rules that makes your sportsmanship a lot better.
Spitting on the course is a main thing that is frowned upon. Not talking while someone else is swinging their golf club is another. Not walking in the way of someones line before they put the ball is another.
These things are not sanctioned rules in most places, but are considered great sportsmanship and etiquette. Honestly I don't think that any of these things affects you becoming a better golfer. Becoming a better golfer is consistently doing whatever it takes to improve on whatever you need to do to be a better golfer.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
