I believe we take the concept of multiculturalism too far. I'm a fervent supporter of immigration with no restrictions (apart from what's stated in my last paragraph) on where immigrants come from and I've been around for long enough to see the enormous benefits that Australia has gained from welcoming immigrants since the immediate post war years. Our food is far better and far more varied; we're much more accepting of different cultures; we've been able to break away from our awful forelock tugging Britishness; we've intermarried with other races which would have been anathema in earlier days; our lives are simply more interesting and varied than they were and we would never have been able to take our place on the world stage without the new attitudes caused by our day to day interaction with people from different backgrounds.
However, I hate the fact that all emphasis on becoming Aussies and embracing our way of life while keeping the best aspects of the immigrant's culture seems ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
