HOLY SH! T! A RATIONAL QUESTION IN POLITICS!
Sorry, that felt good. Short answer: Maybe? They shouldn't be put on trial for killing him, but possibly for the brutality committed to him before his death.
He was able to be captured, and actually asked the rebels not to shoot him. I can understand the killing, to a point: these were citizens of his that had had enough, but to beat him and (according to some reports) sexually assault him is not right. Or maybe it is: yes it's horrible what they did to him before they killed him, but the oppressive regime he forced onto them did far worse things to far more people.
It's not like NATO told the rebels, "OK, you have the dog, it's time to play with him." These are average citizens unleashing a few decades of pent-up rage on the man who oppressed them. It depends upon whether one factors in that these were average citizens and what he did to precipitate it.
I suppose I'd say yes, they should be brought to trial; two wrongs don't make a right, but I would probably be lenient on them.
I understand that the government can't just let the people get away with it, as they will be criticized. But think if you were in the killers situation, you found someone who you believed to be evil has put you down, threatened you, and most likely killed some of your friends/family. Hard to say.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
