SInce Earth Day is used to celebrated the earth and all that lives on it, there are many activities to do. Crafts are a great way to celebrate Earth Day. Having children start recycling bins can be fun as well as have your kid feel important.
Decorating reusable grocery bags for your family to use is another great way to celebrate the day and can be done inside. For larger groups of children, making bird feeders with pine cones, peanut butter, and birdseed, can be a fun and inexpensive activity. Having an Earth Day birthday picnic can be enjoyable for any number of kids.
Use recycled cups, plates, and more. Have the children help fix food and decorate a cake for the celebration. Find earth friendly recipes online and try to leave out processed foods.
For drinks have water and juices. It has great meaning for the day and is something they will enjoy.
In order to create awareness for kids ages 11-13 about Earth Day, I suggest you organize tree planting activities as well as poster and essay making contests with a theme that focuses on Mother Earth.
Many homes have installed compost bins lately. One good activity would be to decorate that boring old plastic or wooden bin! If there isn't a compost bin, you could buy some cheap, plain flower pots and have the kids paint them.
Then plant some nice flowers or vegetables in the pots!
