What are some good Regency period books?

Fiction or Non-fiction. I really enjoy reading about this period in time. Also, would be interested in Georgian period reading.

Mainly looking for general knowledge. Fiction is good, but also interested in how they lived/ daily life type information. Asked by dphelps82 25 months ago Similar questions: Regency period books Arts > Books.

Here are some that I enjoyed..... It's a very guilty secret but actually the novels of Georgette er are a great guide to the overall tone of the period. She's officially classed as a 'Romance Novelist' but her books are very well researched and far easier to read than Jane Austen ;). There are loads of history books, these are a few that I've read and enjoyed; Amanda Foreman's book on 'Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire' (which was recently made into a movie starring Keira Knightley) is a good guide to the late 18th century.'Aristocrats' by Stella Tillyard covers the same sort of social context but a longer period (1750-1832) Boswell's 'Life of Johnson' even after 200 years is a wonderful read on late Georgian scoiety.

'Pitt the Younger' by William Hague covers the career of one of Britain's most famous politicians and the key period from 1790 - 1808. 'The Prince of Pleasure' by Saul David is a great study of the Prince Regent himself, although it does assume that you know at least some of the general background (which it sounds like you do). Might be hard to get hold of.

Angus Hawkins' two books on Lord Derby - the first volume, which covers 1799-1850 is probably more the period you're looking for. 'The Diaries of Charles Greville' edited by Edward Pearce, which covers 1820 - 1850; Greville knew all the leading people in British society and his comments are wonderfully acerbic (eg the Prince Regent is described as a 'cowardly, selfish and unfeeling dog'). That's a start!

I used to read Regency Era books by a company that went out of business. Does anyone have recommendations of another one.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
