Well this university is known for its programs in law music and theology so im guessing these are the best programs offered.
The McCombs Business School is well-known for its programming and student achievements after graduation. The Cockrell School of Engineering is highly praised and ranked 9th in US World News and Reports, offering seven undergraduate programs. Speaking as a (somewhat) recent graduate and not at all biased, you can't really go wrong with the programming.
The College of Liberal Arts was an amazing experience- you virtually have access to classes in every school. There are classes specifically designed for non-majors. There is an entire program in the business school that offers a minor for non-business majors.
The College of Education is amazing and offers incredible research studies, focuses and The Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts. The things that take the programming to such a high level, University-wide, are the faculty and the city. Every major has access to both small and large scale businesses/groups/dance companies/orchestras, etc.As for research, there are over 11 libraries and many more research centers and museums.
The school has the Harry Ransom Center which houses large collections of historical primary documents and literature. Applying to get in used to be simpler in that there were certain colleges that let more students in and had less strict criteria (thought by popular consensus, not a university policy). Now there is not one particular college that is that much easier to get into than another.
When trying to decide which program to apply for, I think the general idea would be to pick a program that suits your strong points so that you have a strong case for admissions. The great thing about UT is that you have the chance to change programs (through the help of an adviser) and work your credits into your new major. As for graduate programs, the programs throughout the University's Schools are all highly ranked. The Business and Law Schools are particularly well known for their prestige and tight admissions criteria, admitting the best of the best.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
