For example, I hate it when I ask for a recipe for something (and I TELL them to only post those they have personally tried), but people still post recipes from google or some random site. I mean, I am smart enough to search a recipe on google, so if I am asking for help here, I obviously want something tried & tested! I dislike 'quickie' answers I most dislike answers that are clearly nothing more than a copy/paste of the first relevant listing found via Google. I especially dislike when people either do not properly attribute such answers (using the source field or otherwise) or when they claim the answer is "my opinion". Most times I see these answers in questions I didn’t ask, since I don’t ask many questions, and the questions I ask tend not to lend themselves easily to regurgitating copy/pasted answers from the nearest Google listing.
So my reasons for disliking them are more from the neutral observer point of view: They rarely answer the asker’s question well. Especially where an entire page is pasted, it’s hard to find the actual answer because it’s hidden under all the additional material in the text. Copy/pasted answers are more often than not copyright infringements - this doesn’t apply to cited Wikipedia copy/pastes since their content is licenced to allow this sort of reproduction - and they can negatively affect the owner of the content.
For example, if I have a small site that uses Google Adsense to generate contextual ads, and that revenue helps me support my site, someone who pastes an entire article of mine onto Askville is denying me potential revenue, as someone who has already read my entire article on Askville is less likely to visit my site afterwards than someone who has been given a couple relevant sentences and a link to the original article. Further, this loss of income can persist long after the infringing act, since my article will now permanently reside on Askville’s website and it isn’t unimaginable that as Askville becomes more popular it may start being listed higher in search engine results than my own small site. Not to mention that Askville itself uses contextual advertising based on the answers included here, so in effect they are potentially earning revenue off of my content.
A related phenomenon to the previous point is answers that hotlink images from other site. Hotlinking means that the image displayed in the answer still resides on my server rather than Askville’s. So whenever someone loads the page on Askville that includes my image, my bandwidth is consumed and my server resources are called into action.
Hotlinking is bad. Read the linked article if you're curious. The worst part of this to me is that these same users who indiscriminately reuse other people's content are also the most oblivious to the concepts of ownership of content and least willing to recognise the potential repercussions of their actions.
As you can probably tell, this is a major beef for me. Less irritating are the answers that are typed by people who apparently don't understand that "I cna tyep 200 rods a minuet" isn't something to boast about if 199 of them are misspelled or otherwise incorrectly used. And even less irritating than that are the answers that are written all in one paragraph, devoid of any punctuation or other logical breaks in the text - line/paragraph breaks.
These are hard to read and harder to understand, especially since I've noticed the people who use them are also the people who type as they would speak, so the thoughts and concepts don't always flow in the most logical, understandable fashion and there are inevitable distractions and sidetracks. These two issues have become par for the Internet course though, so they don't bother me as much as they used to any more. Possibly, my brain has evolved (or devolved?
) to the point where it can more easily parse what once would have been nearly incoherent.
Lack of detail! My biggest pet peeve, entering in the summary line only. After that,it's just jotting down a few words in defense of an opinion.
I think that if someone asks a question,it's only fair that you take the time to thoroughly answer it. I've seen question details twice as long as answer details. That's wrong!
I ask many questions on opinions and exercise science/biochemistry. I always include all of the routes thatI've taken in order to find a reference,or include the fact that I'd like a detailed response. Posting links is fine, providedyou sum tha answer up.
If I post links to reference,it's often because I'm stating something outside of popular belief, primarily in the weight lifting, weight loss and health topics. I think pasting a web page(provided it's sourced and not blatent plagiarism) is okay in certain circumstances. In your case, you can't be sure that the user has/has not used that recipe before.
Many people (my younger sister for instance) will refer back to those sites everytime they prepare the dish. Many people don't commit such things to memory. I have posted links to some cooking sites in the begining of Askville, but I tend to include all of my personal embellishments, pich of this, dash of that, this spice in place of this one,all of those things.
So,in your case,i'd be a bit miffed at a copy/paste job with no manually entered tips. Lastly. I know that many people HATE long drawn out answers (like this one).
I would hope that they would include that in their details as well "I just want a concise answer" type of thing. Cut and paste answers, especially unsourced My biggest pet peeve is people who give a long answer completely cut and pasted from a website that often only peripherally answers the question, or you have to read through a lot of stuff to find the answer buried in the midst of the cut-and-paste. And if the answer isn't sourced, that's the worst. Another minor thing that bothers me in answers is when people don't put in paragraphs if it's a long answer.
If it's just a really long, unbroken-up answer, it's hard to read. I don't score lower for that, although if someone is especially well-organized in their answer it will probably be enough to push me from giving them a good rating to a great. One other thing that bugs me in my own answers is when I go back and see a grammatical/spelling/tense error.
It's funny because it doesn't really bother me in other people's answers, but when I see it in my answers, it makes me want to cringe. And I agree with you that it's annoying when people don't answer your question, like when you ask for "tried and true" recipes and they give you a link to a website. Once in a while, someone will clearly have misunderstood the question and answered "wrong" as a result and that's not so bad, but when someone just disregards the question entirely, that's is a pet-peeve.
One more minor one is when someone gives a one-line, no explanation answer. For a very few questions, that might be all it needs, but most answers can be improved with at least a few lines of discussion and explanation. Sources: My peevish opinion .
My pet peeves I dislike it when I ask for opinions on easily googled information and all that I get is the results of the Google search, when what I generally want is an opinion on that information, this happens often with recipe or consumer products questions. I have found that specifying I want answers based on personal experience does help, but sometimes I do forget resulting in the answers that don't do me much good. I also dislike it when people don't rate the answers to questions that they have asked (this is particularly true for questions that only get one or two answers); long answers that are cut and pasted from other sites (especially if they aren't completely on point to the question) along with answers that just don't make sense when compared with the question asked.

I like to see if people can answer on there own without searching.... I just posted a question... I know the answer! I asked not to look it up and I got only one bite. For some people looking up stuff is easier.
I usually answer from experience. Anyone can search and find answers. I copied down some of their resources that I never knew.
