I love horror movies, but it is a rarity that I get to see them nowadays. I was talking with a friend who still has time to go and see everything that comes out, but we both agreed that some of the older films were much better. I thought that this would be a great askville question.
I look forward to all of your answers. Asked by Bibliobabe 51 months ago Similar questions: worst horror movies Entertainment > Movies.
I have seen more bad than good ones I have seen so many horror movies that nothing really scares me any more. I saw the Exorcist in the drive in when I was 4 years old. (Obviously my father never won father of the year!) But the only movie that still can creep me out is The Evil Dead (part 1).
There is only one part that creeps me out and that is when one of the possessed girls is just sitting on the floor rocking back and forth in a dirty white night gown and she is just giggling and her eyes are all messed up. So Evil Dead is one of my favorites! I think the older ones are kind of lame and not really scary.
A lot of the newer ones are just gory and not scary either. I think a good horror movie should scare you not just by something jumping out at you, but with something psychological that will scare you if you watch it again. Another good horror movie that might not even be considered horror, but it gave me nightmares, was The Day After.
It was made in the eighties and about a nuclear war. There are many, many bad horror movies, like: The Grudge, Critters, The Relic, The Day of the Triffids, John Carpenters Vampires and many more bad movies. A few more that I like are both Resident Evils (haven't seen the 3rd one yet) Dawn of the Dead, House and The Sixth Sense.
I would love to see a horror movie that could scare me! The older films were much much better The classics, The Shining, Amityville Horror, Children of the Corn, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The movies that come out now don't compare. My favorite, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) Worst I've ever seen, Bones.
A good suggestion for all, is a movie called The Dentist. Good stuff.
Depending on what constitutes best and worst... By best do you mean I would love to see it again and again, I would have to say the original Saw really caught my attention. It had a good plot and twist, and it was not gross for the sake of being gross. By best do you mean scare the holy s#!
+ out of me, Exorcist. I to this day cannot watch this movie all the way through. I also liked the original Omen, and the original Evil Dead freaked me out, because it was both really creepy, and very funny in some places, and I had no idea whether to scream or laugh. As far as the worst, I don't like any "horror" that is really an excuse to be gross.
Gross is not scary. Gross is gross. Halloween 3 sucked.
I have no use for the modern Hostel, Turistas or anything thing like that. Saw gets out of that group because they really wrote a great story to it. Showgirls was both terrifying and bad.
I like Cry_Wolf and Scream. I could barely finish Shadow of the Vampire for all the boring. My favorite horror film is Cry_wolf.
I know, that's really sad, but it had some really killer lines. Plus, all of the violence is very stylized which meant that I could watch it (I like horror movies for the scariness, but I'm full of squeamishness). I also really, really like Scream because it was really hilarious.
On a more serious, less humorous horror film note: the Exorcist wins hands down. I tend to forget about movies I didn't really enjoy unless they were particularly awful. By awful here I mean not so bad that they are funny and not really good.
Shadow of the Vampire is the only one I can think of. It was just... horrible. Not funny, not scary, not good.
Which is a huge tragedy because the cast is amazing! (Carry Elwes, John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, Eddie Izzard, etc. ) It's almost unbelievable that it was as boring as it was. Apparently it was nominated for two Oscars which is just beyond me.
1 My all-time favorite will always be "The Exorcist". "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" is also good.

For my next birthday I want to watch horror movies that are actually scary.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
