It depends on you Antidepressant pills don't just cure the symptoms, and they don't work the same for everybody. You'll have to experiment to see which antidepressants work for you. For starters, you're going to have to go to a doctor, to see if the depression really is causing the insomnia, and not something else.
If it is, the doctor can put you on an antidepressant. You'll have to take it for several months to see if it's working; these things take time. If it has bad side effects (which vary from person to person) or if it doesn't work for you, the doctor can suggest a different medication.
If the insomnia is a problem, the doctor may also prescribe a sleep aid, or even instead of the antidepressant. Some drugs used to treat depression are narcotic based and help put you to sleep as well as altering your waking brain chemistry, but those are powerful and dangerous drugs that the doctor will avoid unless she finds that the problem is very severe.
Trazodone is the most-used... ...anti-depressant for insomnia. It does indeed help to sedate you and improves some aspects of sleep, but it can only be used for about two weeks. After that the anti-insomnia effects wear off.
Anti-depressants also have potentially significant adverse effects. It would be better to use a hypnotic for insomnia. Benzodiazepine receptor agonists (BzRAs) such as zaleplon (Sonata), zolpidem (Ambien), and eszopiclone (Lunesta) are less likely to produce next-day sedation and trouble thinking or performing motor functions, and they also are less apt to cause dependence and rebound insomnia than the other hypnotics.
Lunesta has been shown in studies to be effective for at least 6 months. DETAILS While insomnia can be one of the symptoms of depression, anti-depressants are not the best solution for insomnia. Nonetheless, doctors persist in prescribing anti-depressants for that purpose.
Antidepressants account for three of the top four drugs prescribed for insomnia. Trazodone, amitriptyline, and mirtazapine ranked 1, 3, and 4, respectively. The hypnotic zolpidem ranked second.
Most antidepressant prescriptions called for dosages that would be sub-therapeutic for depression, an indication that prescribers did not intend to target depression. While Trazodone fosters sedation and improves some sleep parameters, these benefits may not continue for more than two weeks; there are no long-term studies of Trazodone for insomnia. Studies of amitriptyline and mirtazepine in people with insomnia are lacking.
Indeed, most published studies of antidepressants for sleep involve small numbers of subjects, usually people with depression. These studies typically followed subjects for one to four weeks and often lacked objective efficacy measures. All antidepressants have potentially significant adverse effects.
The FDA has approved eight medications for insomnia. Benzodiazepine receptor agonists (BzRAs), introduced in the 1990s, include zaleplon (Sonata), zolpidem (Ambien), and eszopiclone (Lunesta). They largely have supplanted the older benzodiazepines, estazolam, flurazepam, quazepam, temazepam, and triazolam.
With shorter half-lives than benzodiazepines, BzRAs are less likely to produce next-day sedation and trouble thinking or performing motor functions, the panel said. They also are less apt to cause dependence and rebound insomnia. All the approved hypnotics have demonstrated efficacy.
Eszopiclone, the only one studied in randomized, controlled, clinical trials, has shown sustained efficacy for six months. Introduced earlier this year, eszopiclone is the only hypnotic approved for the treatment of insomnia without a specified time limit. None of the other seven have been approved for use longer than 35 days.
Evidence from long-term studies of zaleplon and zolpidem suggest, however, that these medications may be as safe and effective as eszopiclone. Sources: http://pn.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/full/40/17/30 .

1 There's something that works a lot better than antidepressant pills for insominia--the antihistamine Benadryl, which is available in generic form for about $5.00 for 100 pills. I've taken both antidepressant pills as well as antihistamine pills, and find if take one generic Benadryl tablet a night, I sleep much better than I did on antidepressant pills! Good luck.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
