A couple suggestion and some tips on how to select. Palisade : great view, Harwaiian / Northwest Backed by the steep, gray face of magnolia bluff, Palisade rises grandly above yacht-filled Elliott Bay Marina. A curving wall of windows frames a view that embraces the shimmering city skyline, the busy port, the jagged Olympic Mountains and occasionally even Mt.Rainier.
Inside, footbridges traverse tranquil saltwater tide pools to a tiered dining room warmed by acres of dark koa wood. Tiny white lights twinkle in tall trees under the domed ceiling from which hang enormous blown-glass sculptures reminiscent of coral reefs. The mood is usually celebratory, with lots of families, couples or large groups marking special occasions.
(Watch out for Mother’s Day. ) The food is just as showy as the space. The three-tiered pupu platter sometimes disappoints, so we prefer to begin with the silky, sherry-kissed, seafood chowder or Dungeness crab cakes in beurre blanc edged with Thai plum sauce.
Fish dominates the fresh sheet and it often comes all gussied up, such as salmon stuffed with mushrooms, sage and Parmesan, or mahi mahi in a curry-soy marinade with beurre blanc and banana-papaya chutney. We prefer the simpler crab-stuffed halibut or the seafood fettuccine doused in a rich lobster sauce. Meat-lovers will enjoy the juicy steaks more than the charred rack of lamb.
Desserts hold their own amidst all this flamboyance. During Sunday brunch, an opulent buffet features banana-macadamia nut-sourdough griddle cakes flipped to order. Volterra - cozy tunscany style It's actually in Ballard, but I think it's close enough that you might want to consider.
A review I found: My boyfriend took me to Volterra tonight to celebrate my birthday. We were seated immediately at a great table in the corner, our waiter was charming, the wine steward picked out a perfect bottle of wine for us and the bus boys were adorable and so efficient my water glass was never empty. As we were waiting for our dessert, the power went out. The staff did not miss a step and instantly began bring extra candles to the tables and doing what they could to make the situation comfortable for everyone.
The power was out on the entire street and thanks to the staff, noone panicked A few minutes later, our dessert arrived and it looked like the kitchen was able to get all of the customers fed despite the black out. We thought the darkness really added some excitement to the night and even ordered another glass of wine. Huge props to everyone at Volterra.
They really handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. This is a birthday I will never forget and I look forward to going back again soon. Sources: http://www.gayot.com/restaurantpages/info.php?tag=SERES9957&code=SE, http://seattle.citysearch.com/profile/41708108 .
Szmanias comes highly recommended 4/5 "This is in my neighborhod, and I've been going pretty regularly for over 10 years. Magnolia is fortunate to have this gem in it's downtown. Try sitting at the open kitchen counter area, it's a little more relaxed and happening than at the tables, especially if your date is less than a scintillating conversationalist.
I like it here a lot and recommend it highly. Best meals have an Eastern European tilt on Northwest ingredients, like Jaegerschnitzel and Venison. Nice, fairly priced wine list, as well.
Save room for dessert. Also great place to take the parents - esp. If they're buying.
Only complaint - I wish they would update the menu a little more often. " 4/5 "The first thing that I noticed stepping into the restaurant was the warm atmosphere. The colors are very soft and warm, with a medium yellow, medium green and brick red.
There is a beautiful stone fireplace where a fire was burning softly. Not once did we feel rushed in any way and we were there for more than three hours! The menu was incredible.
Some of the choices were Seared Ahi Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Chilean Sea Bass, Roasted Duckling, Jaegerschnitzel, Beef Tenderloin, Venison, Pheasant and so on. Each entree came with a vegetable of varying types. I chose the Mahi Mahi which came with lobster mashed potatoes.
I also ordered a salad of season greens. It had toasted garlic croutons with goat cheese in an olive oil sherry vinaigrette. Delicious!
After the meal came the dessert menu. Again, we had a nearly impossible task of choosing our dessert. There was a nice variety of caramel apple tart, key lime pie, creme brulee trio, flour-less chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, etc.You could also order a sampler for 2-4 people.
I chose the key lime pie which came topped with glazed pecans and mango. It was fabulous!" 3/5 "Everyone I know loves this place, but I find it to be overpriced and overrated. The atmosphere is lovely, and the waitstaff are friendly, courteous, and accomodating; however, the menu is too limited, and the food is nothing out of the ordinary.
If you're looking for excellent seafood in an upscale atmosphere, I recommend Etta's or Flying Fish instead." 1 I read some review about Szmanias that it has become a bit more family-oriented (i.e. , it might not be as good for a date). Review on food quality is generally positive, but people seem to disagree on whether it's worth the bucks (in the range of $20-30 for a main course).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
