Koni make a very wide range of struts and shock absorbers that are adjustable and very durable with standard fittings for most makes and models of car. Billstein are another top brand that are standard equipment on may Alfa Romeos..In most countries Monroe Wiley also make replacement and changeover units. With a workshop manual and a few tools it is not too hard to change shock absorbers, but you will need some knowledge and a spring compressor to change the struts. It is important not to change spring length or alter road height without a broad knowledge of suspension.
I hope this provides the answer to your question.
Agreed with Earnest, Koni and Bilstein are probably the best common brands, though I consider Monroe to be kind of, ehm... "cheap". For the average Joe (or Jane) looking to tackle something a little more complex then an oil change, shocks shouldn't be a problem, they're generally a more or less "bolt off/on" application. And worse case scenario, if you get them off and realize you're in over your head, you could more then likely still drive to the shop to have a mechanic finish the job, lol.
Again, as Earnest said, struts are a much more integral component of the overall suspention, and even if you successfully get them installed, there's a lot more room for error in terms of doing it correctly.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
