Most people know that drinking cranberry juice helps your urinary system and reduces your risk for developing urinary tract infections. Cranberries are also rich in antioxidants that may reduce the risk for heart disease and some cancers. Several experimental studies have shown promise for cranberry consumption decreasing the risk of heart disease and cancer in laboratory studies in animals.
A recent study in adults drinking 1½ pints of cranberry juice everyday for 2 weeks, however, showed no improvement in cholesterol. So more studies are needed in humans before we will know if there are more than urinary benefits from cranberries and cranberry juice.
