Many people feel itching, burning, or tingling before they see any lesions. Blisters may be extremely painful or mildly annoying. Nearby lymph nodes (in neck or groin) may swell and ache.
Especially with the initial outbreak, additional symptoms may include headache, muscle aches, stiff neck, sore throat, fever, and flu-like symptoms.
