I agree with you, I can't really see the appeal. But from what I understand it is very useful for people who have very large social bases (celebs, big companies, etc), to get word out about their announcements, daily lives, products, randomness, etc. I guess the appeal is the simplicity. Nowadays facebook and myspace are so complex with blogs, photos, games, etc. Twitter is simple and easy and best of all it is easily ported to mobile platforms so people can get updates on the fly.
Another appeal is the anonymity, with facebook and myspace, you put tons of photos up, but on twitter it is just your words. I guess the 3rd appeal would be efficiency. In todays world of constant motion and chaos, reading a novel about someones new book can be cumbersome.
160 characters is perfect to get a link or two in and describe it, and if the reader has time and is interested, they can read more. Kind of like RSS feeds.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
