Instead of citizen legislators as was envisioned, we've wound up with professional politicians that have as their first goal to get elected. Goal #2 is to win re-election. Somewhere very far done the their list of priorities is to actually work for the betterment of the country and it's citizens.
And if the polls show that they will get more votes by giving away their first born son, well sorry boy but you gotta go. TERM LIMITS! Another problem with the us versus them situation is that "we the people" are a diverse interest group trying to keep our heads above water.
While the "government" is a much more concentrated interest group. It would be one thing if we all wanted the same thing(s), but I know we are all aware that our beliefs run the gamut from far loony left to ultra right wing wacko. We have to return to a conviction for doing what is best for the country as a whole.
Sometimes that will not be good for your special interest. Do we believe in freedom? Do we believe in personal responsibility?
Do we believe that we have to be prepared to fight to keep this a free country? I could go on and on, but just because these are things I believe in, I know there are others that would like to see this country go in another direction. At the moment, my only remedy for these people is the voting booth, and trying to elect representatives that work towards my goals and not those listed in the first paragraph.
And regarding the six-month drilling moratorium. Let no crisis go to waste. I don't believe in conspiracies (for the most part), but this disaster in the gulf couldn't have been scripted any better for someone that wants to push a Cap and Trade agenda.
This is a prime example of a professional politician. We are drilling in deep water precisely because the environmentalists have thrown up every road block possible to drilling in safer areas. Check Ken Salazar's record as a Colorado legislator for example.
It's one thing to mandate alternate energy usage when we have workable alternate energy. But we don't. And we won't for quite sometime.
And when you back out the subsidies, it is going to be even longer. Ted Kennedy not wanting wind farms in his back yard tells you exactly all you need to know about the environmentalists. These gulf drilling platforms will not sit idle for six months.
They will go somewhere else. And we will buy the oil from those places. And use super tankers to bring it here.
And they are prone to accidents too.
If people understood who was actually running the country and exactly what the catch-phrases really mean....they would not have allowed it. As it is, people are inherently ignorant, lazy and prefer to believe lies because it is easier which further perpetuates the problem with the lunatics at the helm. Of course, the lunatics at the helm recognize the apathy and the desire to do nothing and capitalize on it fully.
It will never get any better until the lazy masses finally realize that BOzo isn't going to give them what he said he would. When the welfare runs out, then they'll be p*ssed, but until they feel it in their government supplied pantry....they will not do a damn thing to stop it. Even then, when they do rise up in anger, shaking their fists for cheese, it will not be about anything more than wanting the freebies.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
