What can you make in a rice cooker besides rice?

Steaming I make alot of vegetables in mine. I love artichokes, and they cook up perfectly in the rice cooker! I've made potatoes, broccoli, corn on the cob, brussel sprouts, green beans, cabbage, and more.

Anything that you can steam you can make in the rice cooker. They say you can do fish in it, but I don't eat fish anyway so I haven't tried it. I have made packaged rice dishes in the rice cooker, not just plain rice.

I've made paella in one But I guess paella has rice in it, so maybe that doesn't count. They usually come with recipe books that have various suggestions. I've used mine for all sorts of grains I've cooked all sorts of rice, along with bulghur and barley and probably other grains I'm not thinking about at the moment. I'm thinking that pretty much anything that you want to cook until all the water is absorbed would work fairly well. The success probably varies by model, but a half-cup of most grains is so cheap, it's not like you're losing much if the experiment doesn't work out.

Mine came with a steamer insert for steaming veggies, but I've never used that. And some other piece that I'd have to read the manual to figure out what it's for. It's easy enough to cook rice on the stove, but usually if I'm making rice, I'm also making something else that needs my attention -- or the burner space --, so it's nice to be able to just put the rice in the cooker and let it go, and then it keeps it warm if my timing is off.

The one I have is a cheap model, and I think it was worth the price. If it ever breaks, I'll probably get another cheap one. It's worth fifteen bucks to have a spare place to cook rice (cheaper than most stovetop pots), but I don't know if it would be worth it to me to buy one of the really pricey ones..

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
