I agree with the suggestion that enzyme and bacteria cleaners are the way to go. I swear by Odor Control Plus from cleanleafproducts.com. It's new so I wasn't sure how it would work, but it did a great job on my carpet.(works for things aside from pet smells, too...although I'm not sure what could be much worse than old cat pee!) .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
