What caused the war of 1812 and how did it end?

The War of 1812 was between the United States of America and the British Empire - specially Great Britain and the provinces of British North America, Canada. It lasted from 1812 to 1815. It was fought chiefly on the Atlantic Ocean and on the land, coasts and waterways of North America. The war was ended by the Treaty of Ghent, signed on December 24, 1814 and taking effect February 18, 1815.

The terms were that conflict between the United States and Britain would end, all conquered territory was to be returned to the prewar claimant, the Americans were to gain fishing rights in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, and that the United States and Britain agreed to accept the prewar border between Canada and the United States.
