What Causes Side Aches?

Side aches or a "side stitch" is caused by a spasm in the diaphragm, which is a shelf muscle that separates the lung/heart cavity from the lower abdomen. Side stitches can be caused by irregular or face-paced breathing or drinking excessive fluids before a run. Also by jarring internal organs while running.
