What did jesus meant when he said "Thou shall not kill"?

I origionally thought it meant not to commit murder-the unjustfied taking of a life. But I can also see the logic in Apostle Jack's definition that not killing refers to the soul of another.

I am referring you to the following:biblestudy.org/question/what-does-thou-The commandment "thou shall not kill" (Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 5:17), is better understood to mean "you shall not murder. " Most modern translations of the Bible rendered it this way. According to the Bible not all killing, the taking of a life, is murder.

Murder is the unlawfully taking of human life. The command not to murder applies to human beings, not to killing animals or plant life for food. God gave animals to mankind for his use (Genesis 1:26-30; 9:1-4).

But, this does not mean that humans have the right mistreat animals and the environment (Genesis 2:15; Deuteronomy 22:6-7; 25:4; Proverbs 12:10). Under the Old Covenant God allowed the Israelites to kill other humans under very special circumstances such as punishment for certain sins, for example, murder (Exodus 21:6-307, Leviticus 24:17, 21) and adultery (Leviticus 20:10, Deuteronomy 22:26-308). God also allowed the Israelites to engage in warfare and even gave them instructions about waging war (Deuteronomy 20:6-309).

God also recognized that humans might accidentally kill each other, and he made provisions for this (Numbers 35:6-303; Deuteronomy 19:6-307). The primary reason God hates murder is that out of all creation, only human are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-308; 9:4-6). Even before the codification of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai the murder of other human beings was wrong (Genesis 4:6-309; 4:26-303; 9:4-6; Exodus 1:16-307).

While on earth, Jesus spoke out against murder (Matthew 5:26-308; Mark 10:16-303). We also see in the writings of Paul (Romans 1:18, 26-307; 13:6-308; Galatians 5:16-309), James (James 2:6-307; 4:1-3), Peter (1 Peter 4:16-308) and John (Revelation 9:20-21; 21:7-8; 22:16-309) that murder is wrong. In Matthew 5:26-308 Jesus amplifies the meaning of the sixth commandment.

He brings out that to commit murder means more then just killing someone, it means having an angry and unforgiving attitude towards them: "You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment. ’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council.

But whoever says, ‘You fool! ’ shall be in danger of hell fire. (More at the Link above) Written by: Calvin Lashway.

Biblical killing in the old covenant was distinguished by lawful and unlawful. In the new covenant, Yahshua has brought in a new priesthood. The basis of this Way, if charity, forgiveness and mercy.

There is no lawful way or reason to kill another human being in true Christianity. Even dying on the pole, He said, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. " As Christians, we are suppose to know what we are doing and have no more reasons for behaving like Cain ever again.

We are our brothers keepers. As far as animals and birds, there is nothing spoken of concerning anything other than a kosher diet which can and does include certain meats.

Well you're taking the word killing too literal. In the new testiment Jesus explains that to kill doesn't only mean killing someone literally but it also means to tell lies about them, you know like gossiping. To kill can also mean making another christian fall in to their temptations by flirting, or dressing in a provocative way.

And what you are talking about is way off context because back in the day people killed animals as a sacrafice to God. Animals were put on this earth to feed us. Even Jesus ate meat so that has nothing to do with what Jesus was saying.

I hope this helps you out and maybe reading some of the gospels like mathew, mark, luke and john could help you too becuase Jesus does break down the ten commandments further because the religious leaders would ask him a lot about the ten commandments because they felt he was following them.

In Revelation Jesus says that he will kill Jezebel's children 'with death'. In Deuteronomy god tells Moses to instruct the Israelites that: after capturing Canaanite cities, they should kill all the inhabitants - men, women and children (little ones). In some cases (Jericho) they even killed all the livestock - although usually they carried these off as the spoils of war.

There were instances, also, where Canaanite women taken 'to be wives': a euphemism for being repeatedly raped.

WHOA! Wait just a minute vegetables are living things too so if you eat a vegetable you are killing too. God told Adam and Eve that they could eat of every animal every vegetable, grain fruit only the fruit of the one tree was Adam and Eve forbidden to eat from.

If we want to be a more gentle caring and loving species in terms of our relationship with other species of life, the "thou shat not kill" means do not kill another living entity. That would make us vegetarians. In the old testament we were given the grains and the fruits to eat as meat, it did not say to go eat meat in the original creation.

Refer to Genesis Chapter 1 verse 29. I hope that meets you well.DR.

First of all, Jesus didn't say that, it was stated in the 10 commandments, which deals with humans. Also, Jesus ate fish, which may not be considered actual meat, but I just wanted to point that out. Another thing - God killed animals to give their skins to Adam and Eve right after the Fall when they realized that they were naked (Gen.3:21).

This does not mean that we should go around killing animals, just that it isn't a sin because humans were made to rule over the earth and everything else in it. No animal is made in God's likeness, but humans are. We are to be the stewards of the earth, but we have the choice to use animals (for food and warmth (skins)) for whatever we need.

I've been a little broad, but I'm just trying to prove my point. Sorry if I came out a little mean.

I always considered it meaning to not put down others, kill thier beliefs" As well as not killing other humans, but animals are food:).

He meant "thou shall not kill unless whoever you're killing doesn't believe in me, that is, after you've tried torturing him into conversion.

The word Kill is not the same meaning as Murder. Thou shalt not Murder. A commandmentMurder is between Humans and selfish motives.

And a sin. Kill is for anything that lives, food is to be killed to live, its Gods design while this earth is still in existance. If you Kill a human its murder, if not for protection.

He was refering to animal. Obviously because not a soul on this planet wouldn't kill for one reason or another, especially for their children.

He meant exactly what he said, "don't kill"=).

Kill translated means murder. Thou shalt not murder. Jews did a lot of killing of animals and they 'stoned transgressors to death'.

God believes in Capital Punishment. He said himself that the action against many transgressions and the punishment for sin is, "That man shall be put to death". When the ungodly are judged for their sin of not accepting christ they will be put to death, in the lake of fire, which is the second DEATH.

Death is death, extermination. For all the people trapped in this fear of hell and burning forever and ever, NO. God will be in accordance to his principles and put out your soul forever.

Put you to death, its gonna hurt, oh yeah but it will not be 100,000 yrs of torment that is not gods style. He loves you, but you cannot live with him unless you know him. Same as in your own house, even a stranger has to abide by the rules of the house.

God has made us and we are here to live and let live. We should lead a life without intentionally hurting others purposely, be it humans or animals. Jesus said thou shall not kill meaning we should not kill anybody, not even our enemies.

We should forgive everyone. Only then we shall achieve wisdom. Animals on the other side never harm us until in trouble.

But we keep on killing them or torturing them to fulfill our selfish needs.

That it is useless to kill anyone! Because, all and everything being one, you only try to kill yourself by killing a part of yourself, which has arisisen in the form of another human being.

Spirit and flesh are completely different. If you kill someones spirit you are condemming them and not allowing them to be with God, flesh is flesh, but spirit is eternity and must not ever be killed. That is what Jesus even said, you must be reborn in the spirit not the flesh for the flesh has sinned but the spirit(soul) belongs to the Father and must be reborn in accepting Jesus Christ and what he did for us by dying on the cross.

Remember his words as he died, "IT IS ACCOMPLISHED" meaning the spirit in now saved through his death and whoever delieves in him shall never die! (in spirit).

This is question that many are confused about. The answer is this:He spoke about the spirit of humans. We have 2 bodies.

One is spiritual and One is flesh. To kill the spiritual part would take away intellect and good personality of our spirits. The physical body is temperary and was made to "cease to exist".

For any further questions or concerns my door is open.

He meant not only don't kill another person, but don't even think about it.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
