I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS! In my younger days, I used to - how can I say this without your getting the wrong idea - smoke certain substances shall we say? I also tended to drink a lot ala John Belushi/Bluto in "Animal House." .

LOL Back when I was young I use to smoke the certain substance I believe you are talking about. If I did that today I would be the lady running around scared and paranoid so I shall pass on that one. Thanks for trying to help me out though because by reading that it actually got me to laugh which made me forget for a bit.

Anyone can meditate. Count your breaths wirh each exhalation. Every time you lose count, start over.

Or sit and just become aware of your body. Check in with every part, starting with your toes. If you lose track - start over.

When my anxiety was off the charts (following some really traumatic incidents) I tried a lot of different things, including medication, therapy, hiding out (seriously), self medicating, etc. The thing that really helped me the most was a practice known as ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. It is sort of a combination of meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy and Zen. I know that may sound odd, but in my case it brought about amazing results.

It's not the easiest practice to learn, but anyone can do it, and once you've learned it it becomes second nature. I've been practicing now for years, and I have to say that my problems while not gone away are now just a part of my life that no longer really disturb me. I have stress and anxiety and sometimes depression, but they don't define me and most importantly they don't curtail me living my life as I want to.

The best introductory book, I think, is The Happiness Trap, by Russ Harris. There are also a couple of workbooks that are very good - Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life, and ACT Made Simple: An Easy-To-Read Primer on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. There is also one specifically for anxiety, and while I haven't read it, knowing of the author I imagine that it's excellent: The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety.

I walk in the dark...see the stars/moon...but it is raining/cold here now.

Try a massage. That's what I do. I have 4 kids and a seriously annoying wife.

I can say that, she won't find out. The chiropractor's office is a good place to start, unless you have a kind spouse that's willing to give you one. Here's a link with all the different types of massage therapy.It's worth considering, especially if the alternative is a medication of some sort.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
