1 In general, your store bought foods should be avoided. Most of them have additives and preservatives which are potentially harmful to the crabs. For safe and non-safe food lists you can go to: epicureanhermit.com/As far as substrate...gravel is a no-go.It can get caught in the shells and get at the crabs soft parts (that's why they wear the shells).
If you ever see them change shells, you'll see it...it's really kinda gross. I use play-sand in ours, but you can buy genuine Florida beach sand mixed with other good things at The Crabbage Patch online. They have good foods as well.
Finally, if you have a lot of questions I suggest checking out hermitcrabassociation.com. It's one of the most comprehensive hermit crab care forums out there. Beyond those, a couple of other basics.
The crabs thrive in higher humidity, and higher temps 75-80 degrees. Usually requiring an undertank heater. And finally...the way they grow, is to dig down into their substrate and molt (or shed their exoskeleton).
They are very vulnerable during this stage, so it's vital that they not be disturbed during molting. Foods high in protein (like shrimp, peanut butter) and calcium (egg shells) help with molting. Good luck with your new pets, and drop me a message here if you have any other questions.
Can hand-feed your hermit crab. Place the food near the crab, underneath its two pinchers. And then putting the antenna into its mouth.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
