In the old,old askville, everyone would have changed their avatars to something green, there would have been a parade, with pictures of floats and beer and cakes, and silly St. Patricks day stuff. Terrible jokes, info about the real St. Patick ( who was British) by the way - then there would have been a drunken arguement over the fact that he either did, or did not, drive the snakes out of Ireland. (There never were snakes, in Ireland).
Recipeswould be traded for corned beef and cabbage. Then the cow of mean would have swooped in, carried on the shoulders of her box o'hair, and regaled us all with how she spends St Patricks day in Ireland, every year, wearing her green diamonds, As A matter of fact, it was named afte rher. THEN the flame wars would start!
Sniff sniff.....Turbo you brought back such vivid memories....ha. And I don't think you missed a thing. Good job!
I agree there would have been quite a ruckus about driving the snakes out of Ireland and that would have led to risque and very suggestive posts on the verge of being deleted. Good times. Thanks for your response and a toast to those rugged and very charming Irish!

Naw just a good ole flame war, democrates against the republicans shooting out about which side is more evil and will bring the nation down.(sigh) I miss the good ole days......
Yah, seems there are only a few stragglers left to keep the contemptuous feuds alive. I keep hoping that one day I'll sign on and the impossible will have happened; the old AV up an running again.....in my fricken dreams. I do wonder how many people would come back though.

3 years ago askville was cool, I RARELY visit anymore. A controlling bunch of censoring pantie wastes is what the admins are. I think I went through 5 variations of my name because they kept blocking me....for 'keeping it real'.
A lot of fun. Askville was always a great site for a celebration of any kind. Heck, if it wasn't a holiday, we'd make one up as an excuse to bond and party. It's still amazing to me that nobody on the administrative side recognized the greatness of this site.
Wait, I take that back: Christian knew what they had. And maybe Alex. But they've moved on to "greener" pastures.
Excuse the St. Patty's day play on words. I'm pretty sure that is grounds for dismissal, now. There once was a site quite fantasticalThe populace then were all magicalSo much fun was hadIt was thought to be badNow all that is left is their offal.
LOL! Thank you for that fine poetic offering GOLDIE! It was enchanting and insightful!Ha.
Your contribution is much appreciated, and I agree that something would be going on. I think one of the things I miss most is Pirate's Day. I also missed the ongoing stories people would contribute to line by line.
I can remember getting some good laughs and it added to a spirit of camaradarie. Shoot, I even miss hearing about the birthdays. Your poem has inspired me to come up with a limerick in honor of St. Patrick's Day just to put in my two cents.
Let's see:There once was an Irish harlot, who gave favors for bright golden coins,She'd bare her breasts for a schilling or two,but a pound would uncover her loins! Wheeeee! Happy St. Patty's day!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
