State Inspector Looks Into Garrido Parole Supervision Sacramento, CA - California's inspector general is conducting an investigation into the way the state Department of Corrections oversaw Phillip Garrido's parole supervision. Garrido and his wife Nancy are charged with the kidnapping and sexual assault of Jaycee Lee Dugard. Several state parole officers visited the Garrido residence over the years after Dugard's kidnapping, but did not discover that she was allegedly living in the back yard with the two daughters authorities say Garrido fathered.
Although Inspector General Dave Shaw said there did not appear to be any criminal conduct by anyone with the department of corrections, he does want to examine how the state handled Garrido's parole supervision. "If we identified shortfalls in training or in policy, we would make those recommendations and then follow it up with an audit later on," Shaw said. "The department is fairly responsive to our recommendations."
