Pipe dreams... I'd really like a way to make a question "stick" to the front page by making one of the "newly asked question" boxes turn into a "frequently asked questions" box. Only instead of the usual FAQ, it would be the frequently asked questions (and the FAQ stuff). So you'd get "What's questville?" and "How much wood..." and "What came first the chicken or the egg?
" and stuff like that in this topic. And we could back tag things into the topic (I'd so be willing to donate a bit of time to back tag if it meant being useful and not having these things get asked all the time). In fact, when I get home, I might go through a tag all of them with "FAQ".
Anyway, that topic wouldn't rotate out - it would STAY there. Plus, if Frequent Questions is always a topic there, maybe noobs will read it before moving on, you know, when they are first exploring. It would take care of a few things all at once. It would also help if the FAQ were easier to find.
A good place to reposition it would be a link right under the "ask a question" box.An eternal reminder that you answer might be found within the FAQ.
I think it should be 'required reading' before someone is a member. At least, new members should be made aware of FAQ...that it's a great place to learn how Askville works. Even if they don't read the whole thing...simply because a lot of the info and rules don't apply until they get more 'involved'...at least they'd know where to look when they'd like to know what a 'Quest Coin' is...or what they can be used for. It's a lot more fun playing the game when you know what the rules are.
Move the link up where people will see it! I had this problem myself. When I started on Askville a couple of months ago, I couldn't figure out when or how to vote, how to save an answer slot, how to ask someone to be a friend, how to....well, the list is long and distinguished, but not distinct from the questions that many new members have to ask.
I did look for some sort of help section or FAQ list, but couldn't find it. I was hunting up at the top of the page, where the links to the discussions and everything else were displayed. It never occured to me to look for the FAQ section at the bottom of the page.
I know, I know, that's really weak. But Askville is my maiden voyage into an online idea exchange. I'd only ever used the internet infrequently before getting hooked up (and just plain hooked, I will admit) here.
I would suggest that the Askville website designers put FAQ up at the top along with the My Askville/SignIn-Out/Home links. Or maybe stick them on the drop-down list under the green My Askville button. Either way, they'd be a heck of a lot easier to spot.
The fact that new users do have to keep asking the same questions over and over is a pretty good indication that I'm not the only techno-dummy in the bunch. Lots of questions where the only way to find the answer is out of the FAQ Sadly you can't force people to read Askville's FAQ, but I think that if they saw a lot of questions concerning Askville's FAQ you may get more people reading them in search of the answer. My only other idea for increasing the number of people who read the FAQs would be if Askville had a FAQ of the day where the selected FAQ would appear on your My Askville screen or on the front page (which seems to be getting more and more things on it anyway).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
