What do you think is the agenda of the Intelligent Design (I.D.) and Creationism movement?

Not evil, except that any interfering in people achieving their full potential is a bad thing; but extremely stupid. 'Evil' is a word that one applies to things like the Holocaust, the genocides in Rwanda and the Balkans, the use of torture, the death penalty, etc. On that definition, the ID movement isn't evil.It is, however, exceptionally stupid, not only in its own terms - the arguments just don't stand scrutiny - but because teaching ID or creationism instead of proper science (or, as is sometimes done as a piece of casuistry worthy of the Jesuits, as an 'alternative' viewpoint) means that children are denied the opportunity to learn the glories of real science and its discoveries. And that interferes with their achievement of their full potential, which is a very bad thing.

It's also stupid because it exposes Christians to ridicule - it's perfectly possible to be a Christian and also be certain that ID is a load of fetid dingos kidneys - and although by no means all Christian believe in ID, the ID-believing Christians tend to be very vocal about it and so give the impression that more Christians believe in ID than actually do..

I do not like religious inference in mundane affairs I do not think that I.D. must be teached in schools. That's something you can learn at home or in church, since it is only based on faith. By definition there is no way we can have scientific evidence of things like I.D. so they must be confined out of school, where only fact supported hypothesis must be teached.

I do not want to speak about Creationists because all the Creationists I know have a IQ below normal and their propaganda is hideous. Their agenda is to control more minds, which is a way to obtain more power. Most of them are in good faith (that is, only stupid) but I think there are some of them at high level that are more scaring smart.

This is a personal opinion. I know also a lot of very clever and very good Christians but none of them is a Creationist. I prefer to remain unkonwn..

1 The agenda is pretty clear. It is to promote fringe religious beliefs as science. I say fringe, because it does not represent the opinion of the majority of Chrisitans.

I don't think anyone is trying to control the world. I think the fundamentalist's who support this are doing a disservice to Christianity. Although it is intellectually dishonest, I don't think it is fundamentally evil.

I'm sure the people who promote it truly believe that they are doing something ethical.

2 "Intelligent design" is part of the Discovery Institute's "wedge" strategy to promote religion. It's not a conspiracy theory, it's actually stated in their own document. Enter "intelligent design wedge" into google, and that will explain everything.

3 Indeed, it's a step to try and make Christianity the dominant and official religion of the USA. Once they get Christian belief taught in public schools, they're forcing the government to promote their religion. It's really sad that they 1) are using false information to promote their religious beliefs, and 2) that their supposed "true" faith is so weak on its own that it cannot recruit enough people through honest discourse, and must resort to trickery and fraud.

If it's so true and compelling, why isn't everyone on board by now? This user has been banned from Askville.
