White blood cells, the defenders of infections in our bodies, are not as numerous as red blood cells. There are different kinds of white blood cells for different kinds of infections. If a blood count shows that your white blood cell count is low, this could be the result of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a disease of the immune system.
