You don't have the original quite right. Pois is masculine and ma is feminine, but in french adjectives and possessive pronouns must agree in number and gender with the noun. Incidentally, I've never heard the phrase 'Bonjour mon petit pois' which means 'Hallo my little pea Is it possible that you mis-heard the phrase 'Bonjour ma petite puce.'?

Literally 'Hallo my little flea' it is commonly said to small children by their mothers and other female relatives.
