Your dreams are your mind's way of sifting through past events, they're not a prediction in any way. So no one will die because you've dreamt it, don't worry about that. The meaning of dreaming of a dead person depends on what the rest of your dream was.
People can either represent themselves in your dreams, or take on a symbolic representation of someone else in your life (for example, dreaming of your mother may not be about your mother per se, but another mother-like figure in your life). Death is most often a symbolic way of representing an end to something in your life - and, consequently, it can also represent a new beginning. It can also be taken literally to mean that you are dreaming of someone in your life that has died, and you simply miss them.
Or you could be projecting the fear and emotional response of the death of a loved one onto the person in your dream that died, perhaps you're worried something about them will end (your relationship or friendship with them), or that they will leave you in some way. Again, it really all depends on exactly what is going on in your life and what the rest of the dream was. I hope this helps.
Someone once told me that when you dream of someone who has passed on, it's simply their way of telling you to move on and not dwell on their passing and that everything is OK where they are now. Makes some sense I guess. Looking forward to reading other answers.
