What does the Latin language have to do with ancient Rome?

The main correlation between Latin and Ancient Rome, is that Latin was the language spoken in Ancient Rome. There are countless manuscripts, documents and books that have been studied and researched by scholars which show that the language used by common Romans was something called Vulgar Latin, which was a cruder form of the language, much as slang would be for modern languages. Among the elite class in Ancient Rome, it has been found that they spoke a more refined version of the language which is considered Classical Latin. As the Roman Empire grew and spread out, Latin was then used even more widely as a second and more influential language in all of the countries that the Romans conquered, which is why so many of the Romance Languages are heavily based on and influenced by Classical Latin.
