What does the "Tea Party" really stand for? Are they a bunch of greedy rich people or are they just concerned citizens?

Similar questions: Tea Party stand bunch greedy rich people concerned citizens.

Well; the rank and file members are honestly of the opinion that they are doing the right thing; but some people suspect a shadow leadership that is using the tea party to acheive their own personal goals; that have little to do with the good of the country. And the acronym is "Taxed Enough Already" .

I think I get your drift, Thank You UncleRick 4 months ago .

I just know that as an independent I am not re-electing any of the fools that were an embarassment last month. It's time for new blood and new ideas.

Definitely not greedy rich people. They are people from every walk of life, but the majority are probably middle class, average income. They are concerned about the way the government spends our money, I believe, and want the government to use the same work and savings ethics that they have used and know work--don't borrow, save some for a rainy day, and keep taxes low for everyone.

That's kinda what I thought. I was trying to figure out why some guys on TV said the Tea Party caused the US to go from AAA to AA+? UncleRick 4 months ago .

Ah, it's called the blame game. They've got to blame someone.

They are VERY concerned for this nation, rightly so: we currently have no ability to steer from any cliff that we come upon. If the economic depression were to start tomorrow, we'd all go thru it with no help from the federal government. They really mean it that both parties are ruining this nation.

Sorry, I wasn't saying they were greedy. That is just a perspective that seems to be getting more popular of late. UncleRick 4 months ago .

They mean well. They, most of them, honestly believe that they are in the right. And they are not, for the most part, greedy rich people - most are just like you and me.

The problem is that, somewhere along the line, they got the idea that their beliefs and ideas and morals are the only right ones, and feel justified into forcing everyone to lock step and believe exactly as they do. The bad part about that is they are confused. This nation was not founded as a Christian nation.

They seem to think they are better than other religions and races. They are not. As for the AAA to AA, well, they are so determined to stop Obama from accomplishing anything, and getting their guys back into power, that they were willing to do anything - even sink this countries economic standing.

Sad, but there it is. However, there is a bright spot. They have split the GOP, and therfore, Obama is a shoo in for the next election.

They have no one who can beat him, and have prevented the REAL GOP from running a decent candidate.

They certainly are a powerful group of concerned "citizens". To further describe this group I must turn your question over to others who are very well informed on this group. You see, I do like being a member here and I am afraid that I cannot use restraint and stick to "good neighbor" guidlines re.

This subject.

What they really stand for is "hypocrisy. " They claim to want low taxes (taxed enough already) - but our tax rates are ALREADY the lowest they've been in decades! They claim to want smaller government - but ONLY in areas that impact the lower and middle classes.

When it comes to big government to protect the upper class and corporations, the government is just fine the size it is! I believe that it is an astro-turf movement that is taking advantage of a growing number of disenfranchised voters, by feeding on their fears - either overtly (BIG government is coming to take your freedoms! ) or covertly, with dog whistles.

That particular segment of the movement are more accurately described as:T - TotallyE - EnragedA - AboutB - BlacksA - AndG - GaysG - GettingE - EqualR - Rights .

From what I can see - They are a group of Independent thinkers, who LIKE ALL OTHER SUB-GROUPS within the main two parties, lean more towards the goals of the Republicans. Because of that connection - The main Democratic party will attempt to drive a wedge between the "Republicans" and "Tea Partiers" - A third party is a tremendous bonus for the Democrats. As much as the Dems demonize the Tea Party - they also realize that they could just be the one ingredient they need for a success in 2012.

I phrased that first part of my comment wrong - sorry -----What I intended to say is that most sub-groups within either party - tend to lean away from some major ideals of the main party.Sorry......

GOLDIE - "Our tax rates are the lowest they been in decades". Can you reference where that info comes from? .

Taxed Enough Already is what the Tea in Tea Party stands for. They know that the problem we have with the government is they spend too much money, not that they don't get enough. The government is fraught with inefficiency, fraud, greed and ineptness.

They realize that money taken out of the productive private sector and given to the government hurts innovation and the economy as a whole. There are too many people who have the means and ability to take care of themselves but choose to let the government do it instead. We have a responsibility as a society to take care of people who can't take care of themselves, but we don't have a responsibility to take care of people who choose to not take care of themselves.

They have many valid points. But they lack decorum.

I believe they fashion themselves after the colonists that were outraged at the taxes England put on tea. Thus, they disguised themselves as Indians and threw the Tea overboard in rebellion. So, they see themselves as rebelling against government and high taxes.

However, these particular Tea Party people are not like the colonists of old. These people are white, affluent, and many are religious right-wing conservatives (and many, I suspect are racist). The fact that the GOP has given in to this minority of politicians that were willing to see this country default is mind blowing.

They need to reassert themselves and take their party back or they will get a wakeup call come election day.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
