What exactly changed when Jesus died for our sins? Did everyone that lived and died before Jesus go to Hell?

They did not go to heaven but they were at a place where they were in a deep sleep. JESUS CHRIST spoke about the condition of the dead. He did so with regard to Lazarus, a man whom he knew well and who had died.

Jesus told his disciples: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest.” The disciples thought that Jesus meant that Lazarus was resting in sleep, recovering from an illness. They were wrong.

Jesus explained: “Lazarus has died.” (John 11:11-14) Notice that Jesus compared death to rest and sleep. Lazarus was neither in heaven nor in a burning hell. He was not meeting angels or ancestors.

Lazarus was not being reborn as another human. He was at rest in death, as though in a deep sleep without dreams. The fiery pit of eternal torment is known as the lake of fire while hell is just another name for grave.

Great question! Our kids have some of the best questions! The answer to that question is yes.

But What was hell like before the cross of Calvary? In Luke 16:19-31 Jesus gives us a very detailed description of two people dying. One went to hell but the other one went to be with Abraham in paradise.

What is interesting is that these two, although in two different places, and with two entirely different conditions could shout a conversation back and forth. Why? Before the cross, hell was made up of two compartments; a paradise side and a side of torture filled with flames.

And according to that passage, it says "between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence". But what happened to the old hell? Jesus said in Matthew 12:40 that He would spend three nights in hell.

Not the torture side but the paradise side. How do we know? Because in Luke 23:43 Jesus told the thief on the cross that got saved "Verily I say unto thee, TO DAY shalt thou be with me in paradise" Why did Jesus go to the paradise side of hell?

The sin debt had been paid and the gates of heaven were opened wide to those who were believers prior to the cross (Eph 4:8).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
