Similar questions: hair care product works give limp fine boost.
It really depends on your hair. In my experience, it really depends on the person. What works well for one doesn't always work well for the next person.
I would recommend that you find a beauty salon that allows you to return a product if it doesn't work well for you, and then either ask for their help in picking out one, or read the bottle and look for one to try that will give hair "body". Also, Bath and Body Works has some shampoos and conditoners, and they have worked great for everyone I know who has tried them, and they will take back a product that doesn't work for you. Also, I don't know about you, but for me, I have to change shampoo and conditioner every so often, otherwise it stops working for me.
Hope this helps :) Sources: years of experience .
It depends on what you mean by "boost"... The disclaimer: My hair is fine, but I have a lot of it. It also has natural body; it is not perfectly pin straight; it will curl of its own accord and has a lot of crazy waves that I can coax into ringlets if I want to, but it took many years to figure out how to do this successfully without it looking like a mixed, somewhat-frizzy mess. Do you want it to appear fuller, thicker?
For this I use Matrix's Amplify series. JCPenney sells the whole line (not cheap! ), and I've had good luck with the gels, sprays, mousses, and use the shampoo and conditioner each day.
They also have a formula for color-treated hair that smells wonderful and doesn't leave a residue buildup that will leave your hair flat after a couple of washes. Do you want it to appear wavy, full, and gain some body? I have had success using products designed for outright curly hair on my own hair and on other people's pin-straight hair.
The products of this type that I like best are: Curls Rock by Catwalk (The Curls Booster spray is awesome, the Curls Amplifier is a MUST HAVE); the other I've started using is Matrix's Curl Life and is softer, gentler leaving my hair wavy and highly touchable. I have both of these on-hand as I get different textures from each of these products and I mix it up using the mousse one day and the milk/gel another. Technique is important too, not just product.
One other thing I wanted to mention is that blow-drying and scrunching/brushing technique can make a huge difference. For coaxing out maximum wave/curl, I brush when my hair is wet, rub in product from the roots/base of my hair outward with my head tipped upside down, then I blowdry the front to shape it around my face, scrunching the ends as the dryer hits it. To finish drying, I always dry with my head upside down, which gives a TON of volume itself.
Even when I am going for a sleek straight look, I dry my hair upside down once the front is done. This gets me that volume that will last the whole day and keeps my hair from flattening out once my hairspray is compromised by wind, weather, or wear. Things to Avoid.. I used to use Pantene products, loving how soft and shiny my hair was when I used it.
I also loved the smell. However, you pay a price. It weighed my hair down tremendously.
I didn't realize how much until I started to use the Matrix line of shampoos. My hair has had new life since June when I made the switch, and I won't be going back to Pantene anytime soon. I also have fine, limp hair and my hairdresser has been using Pureology products on me. Just stay away from the shampoo that contains any conditioners built in. The less conditioner the better.
I only use less than a dime's worth and only so my hair doesn't become brittle. No gel, no mousse, less is best. Only a little spritz of hairspray..
Plastique" Extreme Hold Volumizer, made by AG Hair Cosmetics. I have used maybe 3 kinds of volumizers--I don’t remember the brands. This one works best for me and it doesn’t dull down the shine on my hair (one or two of the others did do that).
I bought this at a Salon (Bella Bella in San Jose, CA 1-408-559-4247). AG website aghaircosmetics.com .
