What happens to the lint in the new front loading washing machines?

In the old agitating machines there was lint filter and keeping it clean was important. We got a lot of lint and hair. With this new machine we only have a little hair on the door.

There is a rubber gasket around the inside rim of the door. I was told that this is what keeps a tight seal so the water doesn’t come ouf of the washer. The person who sold the washer to me said to make sure to lift this up after each wash, because you might be surprised what you could find - missing socks (!), wrappers that weren’t removed from pockets, etc.And, if you don’t clean it out, whatever might end up in there will start to get musty/moldy and smell.

The first time I checked, there were 17 socks in there! (not really, but there was one and it had to be rung out before putting in the dryer) My daughter also has very long hair and I have found some on the door, like you said, but usually it is in the dryer...all tangled up on things. It will at least help you find missing socks. And, don’t forget to do a rinse with vinegar every 15 to 20 washes, just to clean all the residue up. Also, keep the door open when not in use - it keeps the washer from smelling moldy.

It goes down the drain I spent some quality time on the phone with the fine folks at Whirlpool and they inform me that there is no lint filter on this washer. I do understand your concern; our Miele front-loader has a lint trap just before the pump to keep stuff from getting stuck in the pump, and we have fished some incredible stuff out of there. If your washer doesn’t have a lint filter that you manually clean, the lint goes down the drain. This is usually safe for both city sewers and septic systems. But looks like it's not worth worrying about unless it gives you trouble.

Depending on what brand washing machine you have, it is either self-cleaning or will tell you to clean it. The new Whirlpool, Maytag, Fridigdaire front loading machines all have self-cleaning lint filters. I think that during or at the end of the rinse cycle, the machine flushes the lint filter and the lint goes out the exit hose.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
