Using an element of another culture (one with a lower level of influence than your own culture) in a mocking way. For example, a white woman wearing cornrows because she likes the style and understands and respects where it came from is not cultural appropriation. But a white woman wearing cornrows and mocking the origins of the style and the culture that the style originated in (ie Kylie Jenner with her "white girls do it better" comment) is cultural appropriation.
But white people are not the only people who can appropriate other cultures. Take Usher for an example (I have nothing against him but he has participated in this) who posted a picture of himself in a traditional Native American warbonnet. Wearing a warbonnet (which has nothing to do with fashion in Native American cultures that use it) as a fashion item is not respectful to those cultures so what he did was cultural appropriation.
Respectful cultural exchange is a good thing. Cultural appropriation is not respectful cultural exchange and it is therefore not a good thing.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
