Cats have scent glands in their cheeks, near their whiskers which they will often rub against you in order to "mark" you as theirs. In addition, they will often push their head back against your hand or arm if they wish to continue being petted.
Ttrash is right on target with his/her answer. My cats butt my hand when they want me to continue rubbing. Believe me, if your cat wanted you to stop, he would probably bite you.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
