Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a condition suffered by some women during IVF treatment, especially shortly after embryo transfer. The symptoms are usually limited to abdominal swelling and a little stomach pain, but sometimes they may be more serious and include nausea, vomiting, severe stomach pain, large weight gain and breathing difficulties. The entire syndrome is caused by the hormones administered during IVF treatment.
Stimulation of the ovaries with HMG is followed by an HCG injection. HCG brings the eggs to maturity and triggers ovulation, but also stimulates the ovaries again. If the treatment succeeds in achieving pregnancy, the woman's own body will then begin producing HCG and the step from ovarian stimulation to ovarian hyperstimulation is a small one.
Hyperstimulation causes the remains of the numerous ovarian follicles to form cysts containing large quantities of fluid. This fluid leaks out and spreads throughout the cavities of the body, starting with the ... more.
This is a condition in which many follicles are produced and cause accumulation of fluid in the abdomen and sometimes in the chest. The abdominal fluid causes bloating. The fluid in the chest causes breathlessness.
This condition is usually temporary. However women with poly cystic ovaries have an increased sensitivity to FSH and are more susceptible to severe hyperstimulation. Sometimes, admission to hospital is required and drainage of the accumulated fluid from the abdomen and occasionally from the chest may be done.
Treatment with concentrated albumin infusion is effective in correcting this condition. The preferred approach is to avoid this complication of IVF. If there are numerous growing follicles, one way is to cancel the cycle by omitting the HCG trigger.
In this approach as there is almost no risk of hyperstimulation. A fresh cycle can be started with a lower dose of FSH. Another way is to proceed with the HCG trigger, harvest all the follicles and freeze store the embryos ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
