What is Prince William & his new bride's real surname?

The British Royal Family changed their surname or family name from the Germanic Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to the more British sounding 'Windsor' in 1917. They did this because of the anti-German sentiment caused by WWI. The Queen does not normally use or need a surname, but on the rare occasions when she did need one, for example when she was serving in the ATS (she drove ambulances) during the war she went by the name of Elizabeth Windsor.

I'm pretty sure that William has been using the name 'Wales' as his surname when he needed it. Mountbatten was the name that Prince Philip took when he became a British citizen before/close to becoming engaged to the Queen. It was his uncle's name.

S name was really Saxe-Coburg Gotha, he was/is a Greek Prince - he is also a descendant of Queen Victoria which is why he has a German name (Most of the European Royals are interrelated, one big family). But he is not the King, and has never even been given the title of 'Prince Consort' by the Queen, so I am not sure that his children would have any reason to take his adopted name as the family name. I don't know the answer to the question, and I could be wrong about this but I suspect that if they needed a surname it would be either Windsor or Wales.

Officially they are Prince and Princess William of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Mountbatten is such a unflattering surname, I can see why they do not want to use it. Duke and Duchess sounds much better.

No controvesy as far as I am aware. The British Royal family name was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Needless to say during the First World War as you can imagine there was a degree of anti German feeling in Great Britain so the King George V renounced all all his German titles and adopted the name of Windsor.

Our present Queen Elizabeth does not need or us a surname as such but as she marrried Prince Phillip Mounbatten in 1947 I assume she would be Mrs. Mountbatten in real life. Therefore her male children would also bear their father's Surname and as Prince William is the Queen's grandson then he too is a Mountbatten. So Today you saw just another Mr and Mrs Mountbatten getting hitched.

There's a lot of controvery over that very subject, apparently the "British Royals" actually have a German background. That's why they seldomly mention their last name.

The Queen's surname is indeed Windsor. Those in direct line to the throne also must use Windsor (officially). William and Harry do use Wales, however.

Interesting is that when Charles' sister Anne got married (the first time) she was Mountbatten-Windsor.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
