This will completely be a guess. Please don't be too critical, but I'd like to try to help out since this person asked so nicely. I'm sure I'm off by a couple hundred bucks and I'm sure there are major things I haven't thought of, but maybe this will help get the OP started and she'll be able to come up with a better idea since she has more accurate info on her situation than we do.
500/rent 200/gas food (this means you will not be eating out at all or driving any distance on a daily basis, depending on what kind of mileage you get and how much you like to eat you may want to add a 100 or so to this.) utilities - if you ask an apartment manager, they'll be able to tell you about what their tenants pay, this will vary from apartment to apartment, so I have no way to tell you. 60/ internet neccessary extras (clothes, medical/dental visits, car repairs) - tough to estimate, many financial advisors suggest keeping 1,000 in savings for this type of thing. In reality, you may need less, but expect to keep at least a couple of hundred bucks stashed away incase the car dies.
80/extras - you're a human being, you need small treats inorder to stay sane. Whether it's a cup of coffee with friends, some new music or a new book, you need to budget to treat yourself sometimes. It's also great not to do laundry in your bath tub and have someone else cut your hair!
Try to give yourself at least 20 bucks a week. One time start up costs, if you've been living at home you probably don't have things like furniture, towels, cleaning supplies, dishes, pots and pans etc....depending on how you want to live this can totally vary, but even if you are using everything second hand and all lawnfurniture I'd budget a minimum of 200, assuming that it won't get you nice stuff, but you'll have enough to live without being in misery. This puts your month minimum at 840, with out utilities, assuming that your gas/food allowance is OK and it really looks low to me, unless you are going to be walking or taking the bus to work.
If my estimate is on it'll be at least 940. If you make roughly 1170/month (another estimate) you'll be taxed 15% federally and 4.63% from the state leaving you with about 960. This doesn't include some of the fun little extras they take out.
It looks to me like you'll be cutting it really close. I'm not sure this will work. This also doesn't leave any money for the emergencies or the start up of having furniture and dishes.
One thing to consider is that if you are making minimum wage now and have no savings helping out only with bills and gas, it's unlikely that you'll be able to live comfortably when your bills are even higher. I think you may need to look at waitressing full time before school starts and consider scholarships, loans or roomates while you are in school. Very few people are able to live alone without working fulltime, even if their jobs pay a little above minimum wage.
I don't want to scare you or be mean, but the waitressing part-time may not be enough to cover your bills while you are in college. Or, if you work somewhere with really great tips, it could be totally fine. Looking for a roommate might make a huge difference in this case.
It can be a pain, but another person with more furniture and the odd meal to share can really make a difference. If you could shave 150$ off your rent by splitting a slightly more expensive place, you'd be in a much better situation. On the positive note, the cost of living index for Colorado Springs is 92, which is below the national average of 100 and means that you've picked a pretty good city to give this a try in.
Good luck and please don't use this as gospel or your only source, this is just an estimate to get you started!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
