You can get a clean coffee maker with vinegar and water. This will work for industrial coffee makers and those used at home. Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with one cup of water.
Place a filter in the pot and pour the vinegar water mixture in and let it drip through. After it has dripped through, replace the filter and pour plain water through. Twice.
This is how much vinegar I use to clean a coffee pot, you may want to use a half and half solution if this is your first time cleaning it. =============================== How to clean a coffee pot carafe: *Add the juice of two lemons and 1/ 2 cup of salt and ice to the carafe and shake it around, let it sit over night and rinse thoroughly in the morning. *Bleach and water will brighten the carafe, bleach alone will remove burned coffee and ugly stains.
There are several products you can buy for this purpose. Your manual should tell you which product is best for your coffee maker. In the coffee or cleaning product aisle, there are powders you can add to your coffee maker water (DO NOT BREATHE THE DUST) and clean the device.
Follow the instructions to the letter- these products are acid based. You can also use the white vinegar method. That's aecetic acid, but it's not harmful.
Wait until the maker is cold. Pour white vinegar in to the Max line and let it sit for an hour. Put the paper filter in or whatever filter you use.NO COFFEE Plug it in and run only one cup through, then turn it off.
Don't do anything else yet. Leave for an hour. This runs vinegar through the lines and allows it to go to work.
The acid in the vinegar dissolves the calcium and hard deposits. Turn it back on and run the rest of the vinegar through. Don't be upset if you see white or colored chunks of "stuff" in the filter- these are the hard water mineral deposits.
Dump the vinegar down the drain- it won't hurt the pipes. Wait until the maker is cool, then flush with clean water for a couple of cycles.
You could also use filtered water for coffee making. That would relieve you of cleaning it so often. Otherwise the other two posters' tips work just fine.
The best way to is to start contributing patches based.
