If you are concerned about having strong, thick and beautiful hair, then this is without doubt the most eye-opening report you will ever read. Get it now!
I prefer home remedies as opposed to salon service. Salon service tend to be very expensive and you have to go there repeatedly to have your hair treated. My hair became very dry and damaged especially at the ends after getting a Japanese straightening process done on my hair. I got done at a cheap place and now really regret it.
Should have shelled out more money for it. If you had similar an experience, please let me know how you solved this problem. Asked by prayformercy 55 months ago Similar questions: treat over processed hair dry damaged Lifestyle > Beauty.

Protein I. Protein Protein Treatments- Do I need one? I remember hearing once that hair is 98% protein and 2% moisture.
If your hair is not color-treated and not exposed to alot of sunlight and is not subject to heat-styling like blow-drying and a iron etc, you probaly do NOT need protein. If your hair is color-treated, you will benefit from a once-a-week protein treatment. If you heat style, you would benefit from a protein treatment every two weeks or so.
If you are exposed to water and sunlight alot, a protein treatment 1-2 times a month would be beneficial. If you do many of things mentioned and feel your hair is damaged (brittle, split ends, little white dots on your hair that when you pull on the end the hair will snap off), you should be using a protein treatment 1-2 every two weeks and should consider the Aphogee treatment which I will explain about later. A protein treatment does benefit most of our hair types!
Most protein treatments are easy to use. If you are still unsure whether or not you need protein, try buying one and using it once and if you don't notice any difference your hair is most likely not suffering! Protein Treatments- How to Choose?
Protein treatments come in many forms... Aphogee is the mother and smells and is un-user friendly! Redken Cat Treatment is a spray. Nexxus Emergence is a slimy liquid.
Aphogee 2-Minute and Joico K-pak are similar to using a conditioner. Redken Deep Fuel is a thick liquid. You can choose your protein treatment based on the damage of your hair and also your personal perference.
Some of us only need to use K-Pak once a week and some of need Aphogee! Here is an estimate scale of the level of protein in the above mentioned protein treatments: Aphogee- MOTHER OF ALL, Nexxus Emergence, Redken Deep Fuel, Redken CAT, Aphogee 2-Minute, Joico K-Pak II. Aphogee What on earth is Aphogee?
Aphogee pronounced A-FAH-GEE (thanks misspriss! ) is a brand name of a hair care line that professionals use and consumers can get through a beauty supply store like Sally's Beauty. The line has shampoo's and conditioner's and the Aphogee treatment which is famous on the hair board.
The line also has a 2-Minute Keratin Intensive Reconstructor that is excellent if your hair is only somewhat damaged. The Aphogee treatment comes in three sizes... I usually purchase the medium bottle for 5.99. It lasted me three uses on past shoulder length hair.
The Aphogee smells bad and is the mother of all protein treatment. It should only be used on extremely damaged hair. If you use on only somewhat damaged hair, you will not see very dramatic results.
I used it once before I destroyed my hair with little results. If you have only somewhat damaged hair, I would suggest something like K-Pak or Emergence or Aphogee 2-Minute or Redken CAT Treatment. All of the above mentioned products are also essential to very damaged hair to be used weekly till your next Aphogee. So, if you have had your hair bleached or permed and colored or switched colors too many times or been a victim of Easy Straight and your hair is breaking off and very damaged.... Aphogee is going to be a life-saver for your hair.
Some directions: Set aside some time to do Aphogee. Be prepared with clothing, the aphogee treatment itself, a deep conditioner, and a heat cap if you have one.Be prepared with your blow-dryer all ready. Also, be prepared for your hair to get rock-hard.
One of the scariest things about aphogee is that if you mess with your hair it will break off once aphogee gets hard. I was scared the first time I did it but it really doesn't move at all once it is hard. SO, it isn't easy for a piece to snap off... you would have to grab it and move it.
I suggest shampooing with something gentle and that leaves your hair de-tangled because after you shampoo you have to apply aphogee and if you use a clarifying poo and your hair is a tangly mess it will be hard. When you apply aphogee be generous and really rub it in. Don't forget your roots and back area.
My biggest tip is to leave it in as long as possible. When you think it can not get any rock-harder wait at least another five minutes. It is really important you leave it in for a while.
Remember to blow-dry gently. Rinse in the shower well. Then towel-dry and deep condition for at least 30 minutes with a heat cap if possible.
Also, before you deep condition there is an optional step to apply something that will help with your porousity. You can apply Wella's regenal or Revlon's Roux Porousity Control. Both available at Sally's.
They will adjust the Ph of your hair and help your porousity to make color take more evenly. Aphogee should be done ideally a day before you color your hair. If you want to do it after you color please, please wait at least 2 weeks.
It will help your color take better if you do it before also. Some other helpful tips::: Leave in your hair for awhile. I find it gets rock-hard in little time and usually leave in for an hour.
First, be prepared for smell. It would be preferably to do when you have a horrible cold. You will probaly still smell it then too, lol! Second, shampoo with a shampoo that you have that leaves your hair the most de-tangled e.g. A clarifying one is probaly not the best choice.
I have done a clarifying poo and then a moisturizing poo after though. Third, towel-dry hair. Put on something that you don't have to take off via over your head.
Get your blow-dryer ready and plugged in. Do not use a heat cap or a plastic cap.Do not add anything to your hair like a leave-in or conditioner. Fourth, be prepared to apply Aphogee over the sink because the texture is similar to water.
Part your hair down the middle and if you have hair past shoulders bring it all to the front. It is also a good idea to comb your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb. Start from bottom up. Fifth, apply aphogee... I will pour a little in a cupped hand and quickly rub hands together then rub hands along hair.At the end of application, I run a wide-tooth comb through.
Sixth, I usually start blow-dryer on hottest setting but low flow and then when it is harder and doesn't move so easy, I move to higher flow with hottest setting. I have hair well past shoulders and I basically blow-dry agaisnt my shoulders and upper chest. Seventh, once it is rock-hard... step into shower (it is hard to do over the sink unless you have really short hair) and gently rinse.
Once your hair starts to move again, throughly rinse it all out. Then, towel-dry hair and apply deep conditioner for at least 30 minutes. Some other tips: Unless you have hair above shoulders I wouldn't suggest putting a towel around your shoulders because you hair will stick to it and it will be difficult to remove when it comes time to rinse.
Aphogee is sticky! If you have many cuts on your hand and don't like a lil' pain, you could wear gloves because it will sting. Count on getting aphogee on whatever you are wearing and your skin.
I have never noticed any harmful effects on clothing or skin. Let me know if you need any advice! III Damaged Hair Tips: Having damaged hair is NOT the end of the world although when you have it, that is hard to believe.
Having hair damaged sucks because hair grows at glacier speeds making you having to live with it for at least a few months. The good news is you are not alone and there are more important things in life! I would like to share some tips for when all hope is lost!
Number one: cut as much as you can at least every 4 weeks. Stop washing your hair everyday. For some people this may seem crazy but I only wash my hair a few times a week.
This makes a huge difference because your natural oils have time to nourish more of your hair. On no-wash days, you can try a condtioner rinse where you rinse your hair out and massage conditioner in and then rinse well. But if you have truly damaged hair I would suggest trying to skip at least one day in between washings.
For a product recommendation I would suggest using Aveda Light Elements Reviving Mist and baby powder on your roots. So enjoy the break of not washing every day. Stop all heat styling- no blow-drying, no flat-ironing etc. I know this may be hard for some ladies, so if you absolutely have to so you have leave the house, please don't wash everyday so at least you are blow-drying less.
Some little tips: Invest in big mama, cloth scruchies to help prevent further breakage. Also never pull your hair back tight and once you have your hair in a ponytail don't grab a chunk on each side and pull (do you know what I mean? ).
Buy a silk or satin pillowcase. They are supposedly gentler on your hair and they are better than cotton because cotton absorbs moisture more readily than silk or satin. Embrace new hair-do's.
Lol, I learned the french twist so I could have a way to wear my hair where you could notice my damaged or unusual color. Also, find a cute hat to wear on days where it is not happening. Finally, I know some of the above may be considered a little in the head but you don't want to feel helpless!

My daughter has a constant problem with damaged hair because of outdoor sports. Basically, you need to replace the natural oils that have been removed by what you have had done to your hair. So deep conditioning and/or hot oil treatments are what you want.
You can do them as often as once a week if you have to. You can do them at home - look for treatments that are to be used with a heat cap or plastic cap and that stay on 15 to 20 minutes. Also look for those with various natural oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, or even Pomegranate seed oil or shea butter.
Avoid products that have mineral oil and petroleum products as much as you can. You may also want to carefully trim the worst ends and keep trimming them a little bit at a time as new, healthy hair grows in at the top. I found this article to be interesting.
Scientists are actually looking at what some of the hair product companies are claiming:BACKGROUND: Researchers at Ohio State University have just completed the first comprehensive study of human hair at the nanoscale. Special equipment enabled them to get an unprecedented close-up look at what happens on "bad hair days": from chemically overprocessed hair, to curls kinked up by humidity. They then used the techniques they developed to test a new high-tech hair conditioner.
These same techniques could eventually be used to improve lipstick, nail polish and other beauty products. ABOUT YOUR HAIR: Your hair actually has a very complex structure. Each hair grows from a tiny saclike hole in your skin called a follicle. At the bottom of each follicle is a bunch of cells that make new hair cells, which add on at the root of the hair, causing the hair to grow longer.
So the living part of your hair is hidden inside the follicle. The shaft -- the part we see -- is made of dead cells. So damaged hair can't heal the way living tissue can heal. You have to try to repair the damage, or cut it off and wait for more hair to grow back.
Each hair shaft has two to three layers, most notably the cuticle -- which protects the inside of the shaft from damage -- and the cortex, made of long proteins that make hair elastic (it stretches before it breaks). The cortex proteins also determine your hair's natural color. People with coarse hair also have an extra layer of soft spongy tissue called the medulla.
WHAT THEY FOUND: The OSU scientists found that under an electron microscope, individual hairs look just like tree trunks, wrapped in layers of cuticle that resemble bark. When hair is healthy, the edges of cuticles lie flat against the hair shaft, but when hair is damaged, those edges begin to peel away from the shaft. When damaged hair is exposed to humidity, the hairs plump up and the cuticles stick out even further, leading to frizz.
And more frizz means there is more friction, which can further damage hair. WHAT IS FRICTION? Friction causes a lot of problems in hair, but what is it, exactly?
It is the force that opposes motion, and is produced whenever two things rub against each other. Aerodynamic drag is a form of friction: it is created when the air surrounding a cyclist, for example, catches on the skin and clothing, slowing the cyclist down. The rougher an object's surface, the more friction that is produced when it rubs against something else.
Washing, drying, combing and brushing all cause hairs to rub against objects and against each other. Over time, this friction causes wear and tear to the hair. Protecting Your HairCOLUMBUS, Ohio--How much damage have you done to your hair?
Let's face it; we all take our hair through the wringer. Conditioners are supposed to protect our hair and reverse some of the damage. Now, however, new research has found a better way for conditioners to do the job.
Americans spend more than $1 billion a year on conditioners. How do you know which one really works for you? Bharat Bhushan is a mechanical engineering professor at Ohio State University in Columbus.
He has just completed a comprehensive study of hair on the nanometer level -- that's looking at hair one-billionth of a meter at a time. Bharat says for the study they brought the tip of the hair in contact with the conditioner and then scanned the hair surface. Using an atomic force microscope, he measured the softness of the inner hair layers.
He experimented with adhesion, friction, weight and crashing and found some conditioners are not working for us at all."It does not uniformly coat the hair surface. It sits in pockets at the bottom of the cuticles," Bharat says. Experts say conditioners are needed because everything we do to our hair, even shampooing, strips away natural oils that need to be replaced.
Bharat says: "You use a conditioner basically to lubricate. You're looking for a good feel. " He believes the best conditioners chemically attach to the hair."
If it does not chemically attach to hair, does not interact with hair, then it's not doing much of protection. " Bharat says his work isn't complete. He wants to do more studies on hair, humidity and other elements.

My hair is dry all the time. I used to use Jhirmack shampoo for dry/damaged/color treated hair. Followed by Vidal Sassoon Extra Protection Finishing Rinse.
Neither product is available locally any more so I switched. Now I use Clairol Herbal Essence Shampoo for dry/damaged/color treated hair; followed by Clairol Herbal Essence conditioner for dry/damaged/color treated hair. They work very well.
