What is the difference between a dv camcorder and a dvd camcorder and which is better for a student that makes movies?

MiniDV is better for a student by far, DVD is not an option. Hard drive based camcorders may be a better choice. See the this readymade answer for more info..

For the student/ aspiring film director...go with DV DV is infinitely better for non-linear editing than a DVD camcorder. The tapes are cheap, reusable, and uploading video segments into the computer is no problem at all. Additionally, you get better film resolution and quality with DV as opposed to DVD camcorders..

I would go for a MiniDV cam with SD slot ANY DAY OF THE WEEK! I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
