A psychiatric hospital also treats out patients and there are a myriad of mental illnesses, I've been treated myself! A lunatic asylum is for lunatics and it's a SECURE residential hospital/carehome.
A few decades; they're the same but they stopped calling them insane asylums between the 70's and 80's.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
