I think the obvious thing is that one was democratic and one wasnt. Indeed, the very term democratic socialism was invented in the course of the Twentieth Century because it had to be distinguished from undemocratic socialism, and if you think for all the Twentieth Century, socialists in the left were tainted with the experience of the Soviet Union. If you were on the left in Britain for much of the Twentieth Century, the attack on you came from those who said, Really, you would have been in the Soviet Union because thats what you believe in.
And therefore, the reason why people have to start talking about democratic socialism was to say, no, that is not our kind of socialism. Its one which builds on the democratic tradition but seeks to take it into social and economic areas. That was the key dividing line.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
