What is the difference in emissions from a engine that runs on diesel than one that runs on the 'other fuel'?

Gasoline engines will run on paint thinner, flex fuel vehicles will also run on pure grain alcohol. Diesel engines will run on well filtered cooking oil but it will gum them up if you don't run diesel through it before you shut it off.
