What is the largest number of people you have entered into Ancestry.com's Family Tree Maker. I have nearly 78 thousand. I had nearly 78 thousand names and the file was nearly 2 GB.
I had entered many pictures and text from wikipedia in the notes. On my old computer, which maxed out at 2 GB of RAM, the file ceased to work. I removed some pictures and compacted it but I could not reliably add more records.
Now I have build a new computer with 4 GB RAM (Windows only sees 3.25) and after the last update of FTM, I have converted my old file in version 16 to a new file in version 2008. I still am trying to determine whether I should remove a considerable amount of pictures in order to enable my pursuing adding to the number of entries. Any one else out there pushing the limits of Family Tree Maker?

Maybe time to try a new program like The Master Genealogist. There really should be no need for a program to load all of your information into RAM to make it work. You should try switching to a program that only puts an index in RAM and leaves the rest of the information on your hard drive.
You should consider upgrading to more robust program that is not quite so memory limited. Have your tried putting your data in T he Master Genealogist program...whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc. My current TMG database is currently at about 4,000 but the images and other media files are stored as links to media on the hard drive so it should not be quite so memory limited.
You may also want to try a database approach like PHPGedView with MySQL in the back end. Sources: My Opinion .
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
