St. Vincent de Paul Society of Australia is a lay Catholic organization, and an extension of the mission of St. Vincent de Paul - that is, helping the destitute, elderly, and infirm. It was founded in 1854 by Fr. Gerald Ward as an attempt to help the rapidly growing immigrant population of Australia, who were often poor The Society is composed of both lay and ordained members who do charity work throughout the country.
The St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia wishes to acknowledge that we are on Aboriginal land. We pay respects to all traditional custodians. This website may contain images of deceased members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
They are used with the greatest respect and appreciation.
