What is the Toledo Zoo like in Toledo, Ohio?

From its meager beginning of a donated woodchuck in 1900, the Toledo Zoo has grown into one of the finest zoos in the country. The Toledo Zoo is listed as one of the top ten zoos in the country for children, and was the first zoo in the world to build a ppoquarium where visitors can watch the hippos during their underwater activities and was highlighted in National Geographic. There are over 9000 animals on display, and other exhibits beside the hippo display add to the enjoyment of thousands of visitors per year.

Besides the animal displays, each year the zoo is adorned with over a million Christmas lights for the "Lights Before Christmas display. In fact, the Toledo zoo's 2010, 85 foot Christmas tree was recognized by Travel and Leisure as one of the tallest in the country. The zoo also has an Arctic Encounter for observing the polar bears, wolves, and seals,an African Safari, the Cheetah Valley, a free range aviary, among others exhibits.
