What is the value of a "Good Sense of Humor"?

Your opinion please. Why is it important to you, or others? What does having one tell you about a person, or about a person who doesn't have one?

If there is some 'science' on this subject, I'm up for some, but don't get crazy... Asked by OlneyFalcon 45 months ago Similar questions: Sense Humor Science > Psychology.

A good sense of humor is important, But I’ll take no sense of humor over a bad sense of humor. For example- a guy I was trying to get to know thought it was HILLARIOUS that a woman in a motorize wheel chair was having trouble getting through a crowded space. Bad sense of humor.

I couldn’t wait to get away from him, and I spend as little time as possible with him now. I’ve also dated guys with no sense of humor. I prefer the “blank stare” approach to this personality to the “what’s THAT supposed to mean?!

” approach. The former is just clueless, the later tends to get angry because they’re clueless. But neither of them is as offensive as the bad sense of humor.

Personally, my sense of humor derives directly from a childhood friend. We were peas and carrots, and he always kept me laughing with impressions, jokes, and funny stories. He’s also who introduced me to the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, which I continue to hold dear to me to this day.

Really, as long as you can laugh once in a while, and keep up with the conversation while doing so, I’d think you have a sense of humor. That’s all I really want- I don’t need a laugh-riot. And, there is science on this.

I was listening to an article on laughter on NPR. If you study brain waves, people respond not only to laughter, but to different parts of each person’s laugh. The initial high-pitched “pay attention to me!

” part of the laugh gets your brains attention, and the rest of it releases feel good chemicals. Laughter is the closest thing we have to a mating call when we hear it from other people, and one of our bodies most primitive actions- thus the image of the tittering girl on a date with a new beau. Hearing others laugh makes us feel almost as good as laughing on our own does!
